As per reports, Danny Sullivan from Google has confirmed that the organization has not introduced the passage indexing. Formerly, the team predicted (based on the initial declaration) that the tech giant would introduce the passage indexing feature at the end of 2020.
However, there is no update so far. It is being considered that Google may delay the release. Also, it will be rolled out at the beginning of 2021.
When asked if the feature has been rolled out or not, Danny Sullivan said “it is not” on Twitter. Check out this image:
What is Passage-Based Indexing?
In the middle of October, during a live stream event, Google revealed upcoming modifications to the search engine, which include impressive new improvements for SEOs and digital marketers.
Moreover, declaring that BERT now backs every English-based query on Google Search, the tech giant even exposed its new Passage Indexing Feature.
When asked what is a passage-based indexing feature, Google said, “Very specific searches can be the hardest to get right.” “Since sometimes the single sentence that answers your question might be buried deep in a web page.”
“We’ve recently made a breakthrough in ranking and are now able to not just index web pages, but individual passages from the pages. By better understanding the relevancy of specific passages, not just the overall page, we can find that needle-in-a-haystack information you’re looking for.”
Besides, Google mentioned that the passage-based indexing is going to impact 7 percent of search queries all over the languages when completely rolled out worldwide.
This is a warning, notwithstanding Google calling it “passage indexing,” it is a ranking shift, not an indexing shift. Hence, indexing has not shifted here.
Additionally, it is majorly a ranking shift, how the tech giant Google ranks the content depending upon what it figures out on your website page.
So, remember Google is not indexing individual passages available on the page. However, it is better at planning into what is on the page, as well as categorizing these passages for better ranking objectives.
Why Should You Wait for It?
There have been a few considerations that passage indexing is presently live. Well, it is not. Google will probably confirm before it goes live.
With AI-based Passage Indexing, the organization can now index particular passages more accurately, delivering them in the outcomes for some long-tail search queries.
It is crucial to note that this will impact 7% of search queries over different languages when completely rolled out worldwide. So there should be a prominent change when this is introduced.
Till then, keep doing the same thing you do and see what modifications you need to do on your website if any.
